The A-Holes of ANC

Who: A pair of 18-year-old couriers, hopped up on bravado, way too much pop, and someone else’s van.

  • Two best friends are couriers in the early-90s Toronto (they work for Associated National Couriers—A.N.C.). The kind of idiots who see an impossible delivery day and laugh (it might be the ADHD laughing…)They’re half wits, half adrenaline junkies—and 100% comedic disaster.

Why They’re Here (in the ‘movie’ sense):

  • They pop up near the beginning of the story, tailgating Smokey Mountain’s rig then, head off downtown. For most of the story, they’re out of sight, with various ‘meanwhile’ moments until near the final act, when they resurface via the Don Valley Parkway (a chamber of horrors in its own right).
  • Their role is a wild-card for comedic relief with just enough chaos to keep the action high. With a bit of nostalgic fun for anyone who’s ever been a courier and done the impossible.

Their Anthem: click here

  • “A-holes-of A.N.C.” is basically their personal mission statement. rocker style anthem, punky lyrics, a tasteful amount of F-bombs. It’s part adrenaline, part teenage stupidity, all set to a beat that screams, “We might survive… or Crash and Burn” their actual battle cry; to this day.

Tone & Vibe:

  • Barely founded teenage confidence meets real-life Toronto. Every time Dave and Rich show up, we’re guaranteed a few near-death experiences and questionable decision-making. They’re not an evil element, near fearless behind a wheel and, possibly too dumb (in a lovable way) to realize how close they come to disaster.

Overall:

  • They’re the comedic heart of the story with genuine charm from actual real-life events. For Dave and Rich, the GTA and 401 where both a playground and a living nightmare.
